General Leonard Wood, 90 of Camden on Gauley passed away on February 16, 2012 at CAMC General Division after an extended illness. He was born April 9, 1921 in Ida Mae, WV to Newton Samuel and Lela Bell Givens Wood and was a 40 year resident of Webster County, formerly living in St. Petersburg, FL and St. Albans. He was a mine foreman and worked for the Department of Highways, a 50 year member of Camden Lodge #107 AF&AM, member of the WV Turkey Federation, an inductee of the Turkey Hunter Hall of Fame, a Hunter Education Instructor, a United States Navy Veteran serving in WWII, and an avid hunter and outdoorsman.
Leonard is survived by his wife Maysel Holbrook Wood; son William C. "Bill" Wood of Summersville; brother Dan Wood of Monongah; sisters Ida Mae Burwitz of Ringold, GA, Ruby Gentz of Blissfield, MI, Jean Peters of Hutto, TX, and Sherma Addington and Faye Peters both of Rossville, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Robert E. Wood; and brothers Junior, Harley, and Charles.
Friends may join the family for visitation on Sunday, February 19, 2012 from 11:30 to 1:30 at Adams-Reed Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 with Rev. Keith Williams and Linda Payton officiating. Interment will follow in West Virginia Memorial Gardens.
