Elza Hammons, 92 of Camden on Gauley passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Summersville Regional Medical Center. He was born April 3, 1922 in Webster County to Pete and Emma Lear Short Hammons and was a lifelong resident of Webster County. He was a retired coal miner and Baptist by faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and playing horseshoes. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
Elza is survived by his daughter Charlotte Faye Hammons; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Gladys Kate Fletcher Hammons; son Dorsey Lee Hammons; daughter Garlynn Curry; three infant children; two sisters; and one brother.
Friends may join the family for visitation on Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 12:30 to 2:00 PM at Adams-Reed Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate Elza's life will be held at 2:00 PM at the Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Kessler officiating. Interment will follow in Alex Williams Cemetery, Camden on Gauley.
