Doris Gail (Crites) Armstrong, 75, of Erbacon passed away on Friday, April 11, 2025 at CAMC General in Charleston.
Born in Webster County on April 19, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Dencil Paul and Helen Louise (Bean) Crites.
Doris was a 1988 graduate of Davis and Elkins College, where she earned her degree to be a Registered Nurse. She cared for a multitude of patients when she worked at Webster County Memorial Hospital in the Emergency Department. She also worked for Seneca Mental Health, Allied Security Services, and Mount Olive Correctional Facility.
Doris liked to frequent yard sales where she would find items to add to her many collections; amongst those collections were teapots, cookie jars, antique jewelry, or older furniture. She was crafty and creative and could bring old furniture back to life when restoring and repurposing pieces that had lost their luster. She also enjoyed crocheting. She enjoyed keeping her mind sharp by reading, doing word searches, and crossword puzzles; or by solving mysteries on some of her favorite tv shows, such as: “Highway Patrol”, “Perry Mason”, and “Murder, She Wrote”.
Doris had the innate ability to grow any flower until it flourished. She enjoyed flowers of all kinds and would surround herself with the beauty and aroma that they provided. She had a love for music, and would spend most Saturday nights tuning in to listen to some her her favorite oldies on the local country music station; one of her absolute favorite artists was Conway Twitty. Above all, Doris loved her family dearly. She made it a point to make it to as many family gatherings as she could, understanding that family was always placed at the very top of her priorities list.
Left to cherish her memories are her children: Anita (Craig) Marker and Terry (Paula) Armstrong; grandchildren: Bret (Alicia) Knight, Alex Hays, Emily (Jarrod) Hays, Madelyn Armstrong, and Solomon Armstrong; great-grandchildren: Brayleigh Knight and Aliana Knight; siblings: Darrel (Marsha) Crites, Alvin (Donna) Crites, Patty (Pete) Angus, Rick (Shirley) Crites, and Angela (Larry) Cottrill; special family member and neighbors that were always willing to help: Jeffrey and Angela Crites, Joe and Gary Coombs, and Don and Vicky Tharp; her loyal cat, Baby; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
A graveside service will take place 2:30 pm, on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Sunset Memorial Park, Erbacon, with Bro. Larry Cottrill officiating. Burial will follow at the cemetery.
