Belecia M. (Tonkin) Prater, 92, of Upperglade, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 23, 2016 at her residence.
She was a Christian and attended Halo Methodist Church. Belecia was a lifetime member of the American Legion Ladies Auxilliary. She liked to sew, crochet, and quilt; but above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Born August 23, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Ruby (Brown) Tonkin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Willie Harold Prater; her brothers, McTyre Tonkin, Athel Tonkin, Hayvard Tonkin, and Lareigh Tonkin; sisters, Delma Tonkin, Elouise Tonkin, and Nelva “June” Giles.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Terry Tonkin (wife, Mary) of Cowen; daughters, Karen “Jean” Thomas (husband, Gary) of Upperglade, and Dimples Gregory of Cowen; sister, Jean “Tiny” Murphy (husband, Arden) of Gassaway; 7 granddaughters, eleven great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandsons, and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
Services to celebrate Belecia’s life will be held 1PM, Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Adams-Reed Funeral Home, Cowen, with the Reverend James “Oz” Gray officiating, burial will follow at Alex Williams Cemetery, Camden-on-Gauley.
Friends may join the family for visitation 6-8 on Wednesday at the funeral home.
