Arthur Jake Harris, 90, of Cowen, WV, died on April 20, 2012, at his residence. He was born in Franklin County, Virginia, April 19. 2012, son of the late Henry and Roxie West Harris. He had lived in Cowen since 1951, formerly from Richwood, WV.
He was an Army veteran of WWII, a retired coal miner, and attended Love & Life Fellowship Church. He enjoyed building miniature churches and log cabins, using popsicle sticks and matchsticks. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping and was a volunteer for the Day Run Camp Grounds, Williams River.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Arthur J. Harris, Jr; brother Ottie Harris; and sister Audra Barnett.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Jones Harris of Cowen, WV; 2 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 2 great- great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Handschumacher Cemetery, Upperglade, WV, with Rev. Carmel Sanson and Rev. Jim Dyer officiating. Adams-Reed Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
